The Lifestream is the cycle of life and death, the Planets living essence from which all life is born and to which it returns. But the Shinra Electric Power Company ruthlessly drains that essence and refines it into mako to power industry. After countless fierce battles in the mako-powered metropolis of Midgar, ex-SOLDIER Cloud Strife and his companions step beyond the city and into the wider world.
Riding across grassy plains atop chocobos, they embark on an uncertain path, beginning their fated journey across the Planet.At the same time, SOLDIER First Class Zack Fair wanders the wastelands outside Midgar. Wounded and weary, he drags himself forward while supporting his dear friend Cloud, delirious from mako poisoning, as an ominous rift tears the heavens above.
Meanwhile, Wutais interim government leads the Shinra Resistance Committee in a declaration of war. Sensing the threat to the Planet itself, the fearsome guardians known as Weapons awaken and rise from the Lifestream. Through Sephiroths machinations, the strands of destiny intertwine and are reborn again.
